Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, delivered a statement at the Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) at the 25th Anniversary of the Treaty’s opening for signature. He emphasized the importance for the entry into force of the CTBT for the achievement of a nuclear-weapon-free world. The Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) was held virtually during the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA.
The Vice Minister also emphasized the need to advance nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation by joining the call for the eight remaining Annex-2 States, whose ratification are conditions for the entry into force of the Treaty, to ratify the CTBT without delay, so that the Treaty can become operative as an internationally legally binding instrument. He stated that the entry into force of the CTBT is key to the achievement of a nuclear-weapon-free world, which would allow the international community to uphold the principles and purposes of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security.
