On July 11, 2024, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomed H.E. Mr. Komura Masahiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of Mr. Komura’s visit to Thailand.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the close and enduring relations between Thailand and Japan at all levels, including the successful ASEAN – Japan Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN – Japan Friendship and Cooperation held in December 2023 in Tokyo. Vice Minister Russ expressed appreciation for Japan’s support for Thailand’s application to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Thailand’s application to the OECD underscores its commitment to strengthening an investment environment that fulfills OECD standards, which will also benefit Japanese investors in Thailand, promotion of democratic values, human rights, and an open and transparent economy. Vice Minister Russ also emphasized Thailand’s aspiration to continue its long-standing policy of South-South cooperation and a bridge connecting the OECD with BRICS countries for inclusive and sustainable development.

Additionally, both sides exchanged views on security matters, whereby the Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komura expressed appreciation for Thailand’s efforts in supporting humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar. Furthermore, the discussions extended to various regional and global issues, such as the ongoing situations in Gaza Strip and Ukraine, with both sides concurring on the imperative of ending violence, the provision of humanitarian aid, and collaboration for the recovery of areas affected by the conflict.
