On 17 March 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a discussion with Mr. Nguyen Tat Thanh, Director-General of the Department of Southeast Asia, South Asia and South Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, who paid a courtesy call on the occasion of his visit to Thailand. The Director-General was scheduled to have a meeting with the Department of East Asian Affairs to discuss advancing Thailand - Viet Nam relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
 
Both sides welcomed the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Viet Nam this year. They agreed to promote exchanges of high - level visits and organise commemorative activities to mark this significant milestone. They also discussed ways to further strengthen and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including by enhancing economic connectivity between the two countries, promoting cooperation under subregional frameworks in the Mekong region, particularly the Ayeyawady–Chao Phraya–Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), and addressing uncertainties in the current global economic landscape. Both countries are in the process of formulating a Plan of Action to translate the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into concrete outcomes.
