On 5 October 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Diene Keita, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), on the occasion of her visit to Thailand to attend the UNFPA Global Leadership Meeting.

Both sides welcomed the close partnership between Thailand and UNFPA spanning over 50 years and discussed ways to promote cooperation in population development to address an ageing society, particularly in tackling low fertility rates and promoting healthy ageing, in line with the 13th Thailand-UNFPA Country Programme Document (2027-2031). On this occasion, the Vice Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to continue supporting UNFPA’s work.

The Vice Minister also attended the opening ceremony of the UNFPA Global Leadership Meeting 2026 alongside the Executive Director of UNFPA, the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, and the Advisor to the Minister of Social Development and Human Security.

The UNFPA Global Leadership Meeting is a high-level gathering of senior executives from UNFPA offices worldwide, held every 2-3 years. The 2026 meeting will focus on operationalization of the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2026 - 2029.
