On 14 October 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, hosted a dinner in honour of H.E. Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), on the occasion of his visit to Thailand to attend the IMF - World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026.

Both sides discussed Thailand’s OECD accession process. The Vice Minister reaffirmed the Thai Government’s strong political commitment and broad-based support from all sectors in Thailand for OECD accession. The Secretary-General reiterated the OECD’s support for Thailand and emphasised that the accession process would bring mutual benefits to both Thailand and the OECD. For Thailand, the process provides an important opportunity to advance domestic reforms, while the OECD will be stronger for having Thailand’s perspective and experience and could further strengthen its partnership with Southeast Asia and ASEAN, a region with significant economic potential and a strong commitment to international rules and norms.
