On 3 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with the Honorable Michael George DeSombre, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, at the U.S. Department of State, Washington, D.C. for talks on strengthening cooperation on combating online scams.

Both sides discussed advancing the Thai - U.S. alliance and strategic partnership, particularly on combating online scams and scam centers in Southeast Asia. The Vice Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for the U.S. support for Thailand’s efforts against online scams, including the recent offer in January 2026 of 10 million USD for law enforcement cooperation and the U.S. participation at the International Conference on Global Partnership against Online Scams hosted by the Royal Thai Government in Bangkok in December 2025.

They also exchanged views on ways to further enhance cooperation between law enforcement agencies of both countries, including on intelligence sharing, identification of human trafficking victims, capacity building for relevant officials, and public-private partnership in order to address this common challenge of high priority for both countries.
