On 30 November 2021, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand delivered a pre-recorded intervention on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs during the Thematic Interactive Dialogue of the 45th Annual Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 (G77) held virtually in New York.
The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of partnerships among developing countries to build a fairer and greener post-pandemic global governance and shared three ideas on how to achieve this goal: First, to leverage artificial intelligence and blockchain technology to build resilient supply chains and facilitate cross-border payments and digital trade; Second, to promote South-South and Triangular Cooperation to share locally driven development approaches, such as the Bio-Circular-Green Economy - BCG Model; Third, to oppose any unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the pretext of addressing climate change and ensure a more equitable tax regime.
In addition, the Meeting also adopted the Ministerial Declaration of the 45th Annual Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of G77 as the outcome document and elected the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as the Chair of G77 for the year 2022 in succession to the Republic of Guinea.
The G77 currently comprises 134 developing countries, making up the largest negotiating bloc in the United Nations. The Group aims to increase the negotiating power of developing countries within the United Nations System and promote South-South cooperation. Thailand was the Chair of G77 and China in 2016.
