Ministry of Foreign Affairs leads Thai businesses to network and learn investment opportunities in Central Asia

On 23 - 25 July 2024, Mr. Psusist Wongsurawat, Minister attached to the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, led a Thai business delegation from the modern retail and logistics sectors to visit Tashkent, Namangan, and Fergana cities in Uzbekistan.

In Tashkent, the business delegation visited Technopark industrial zone to learn about various industries and manufacturing sectors currently in Uzbekistan. The group also met with executives of Korzinka and Makro, prominent supermarket chains in Uzbekistan, to explore business opportunities and establish connections.

The delegation later travelled to Namagan and Fergana cities, where they visited a local fruit processing factory and a textile factory in Namangan Free Economic Zone (FEZ) and Yodgorlik Silk Factory, a historic and leading silk production factory, in Margiland, Fergana Valley. In addition, the Thai companies also participated in a business matching session with various interested Uzbek companies to establish business contacts and discuss with potential counterparts, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Fergana City.  

On this occasion, the group had an opportunity to discuss with Mr. Baxtiyorjon Salimjonov, Mayor of the Chust District in Namangan, and Mr. Mubasher Zunnurovich, Deputy Governor of Namangan, as well as Mr. Khurshid Akhmedov, Deputy Governor of Fergana, to receive comprehensive briefings and exchange views on business and investment potentials of the Central Asia region.
