On 27 September 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, as ASEAN Coordinator for Sustainable Development Cooperation, in collaboration with UN Women, co-organised a side event during the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, titled “Learnings from ASEAN: Achieving the SDGs for All and Leaving No Woman or Girl Behind”.

This side event had reaffirmed ASEAN’s continued commitment to advancing gender equality (SDG 5) as well as fostered fruitful discussion among ASEAN and its external partners, and advanced our shared goal on women and girl empowerment in ASEAN in order to drive transformative action towards achieving the SDGs. It also highlighted the second ASEAN Gender Outlook, developed by UN Women in collaboration with the ASEAN Committee on Women, which underscores the importance of evidence-based decision making in promoting gender equality.
