On 28 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, received an introductory telephone call from the Right Honourable Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, initiated by the New Zealand side. The call marked the first discussion between the two sides since their assumption of duty.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations across various dimensions, ranging from political, security, economic issues to other areas of shared expertise. In addition, both sides also discussed ways to deepen multilateral cooperation, including ASEAN and ACMECS, as well as exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar.

Thailand and New Zealand established diplomatic relations on 26 March 1956, marking the 68th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations this year.
