Director-General of East Asian Affairs Department and Senior Advisor to the Public Health Ministry discussed with the Republic of Korea's counterparts to prepare for the first Thailand-ROK 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue on Health Security, a platform for Foreign Ministers and Ministers of Health of the two countries to steer health cooperation at the bilateral, sub-regional, regional and international frameworks.

On 14 January 2021, Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs and Mr. Pongsadhorn Pokpermdee, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Public Health attended a preliminary discussion at the Working Level to prepare for the First Thailand-Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign and Health Ministers' 2+2 Dialogue on Health Security via video conference. Participants from the Korean side comprised Mr. Jung Young-soo, Head of Planning Team, COVID-19 Task Force, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROK, and Mr. Jeong Hong-geun, Director-General of International Cooperation, Ministry of Health and Welfare of the ROK.

The Thai side concurred with the ROK’s proposal to initiate a Thailand-ROK 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue on Health Security as a platform for the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Ministers of Health of the two countries to discuss and exchange views at the policy level on ways to steer health cooperation at the bilateral, sub-regional, regional and international frameworks. The 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue is tentatively scheduled to be convened in late February 2021 via video conference with an agenda covering wide-ranging issues such as health security, universal health coverage, health promotion, facilitation of essential movement of people, protection of Thai and Korean nationals during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the promotion of health cooperation through the ROK's New Southern Policy Plus (NSPP), ASEAN, Mekong-ROK Cooperation and international fora such as World Health Organisation (WHO) and Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA).
