On 10 March 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the Opening Ceremony of Thai-Latin Coffee+ Plus Weeks at Vithes Samosorn, with opening remarks delivered by Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Piroon Laismit, Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD). The event brought together over 200 participants, including ambassadors and chargé d’affaires a.i. from Latin American embassies, coffee entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and enthusiasts, with the shared objective of strengthening coffee collaboration between Thailand and Latin America.
As one of the world’s leading coffee producers and exporters, Latin America accounts for 35% of global coffee exports. Meanwhile, Thailand’s domestic coffee market is valued at over 100 billion baht, with an annual consumption of 90,000 tons, or an average of 1.5 cups per person per day. Recognizing the opportunities in both regions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand organized the Thai-Latin Coffee+ Plus Weeks to foster collaboration, facilitate knowledge exchange, and showcase coffee from each participating country through tastings and promotional activities.
This year, Latin American embassies in Thailand have generously donated over 70 kilograms of roasted coffee to be featured at APCD 60+ Plus Bakery & Café, including Buakaew Brew Café located within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This initiative supports vocational training and employment for persons with disabilities. Coffee from Latin America will be available for purchase at APCD Cafés in four locations from 10 to 21 March 2025.
