 Office of the Prime Minister,
Government House,
BANGKOK.

                                        19 December B.E. 2563 (2020)

Samdech Techo Prime Minister,

On the special occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations on 19 December 2020, I am very pleased to affirm that the relationship between Thailand and Cambodia has never been stronger, with expanding cooperation and mutual benefit in all field.

As friendly neighbours, our border areas are now enjoying the fruits of enduring peace and stability, with flourishing cross-border trade continuously bringing more jobs and better livelihoods to the peoples. Remarkably, our bilateral trade has grown exponentially from around USD 300 million twenty years ago to well over USD 9 billion in 2019. Thai investments in Cambodia have been on the increase, contributing positively to Cambodia’s economy, while Thailand’s economy has also benefited greatly from Cambodia’s workforce and economic cooperation.

We have also made significant progress in enhancing our connectivity, exemplified by the first Thailand - Cambodia Friendship Bridge (Ban Nong Ian - Stung Bot) linking Sa Kaeo and Banteay Meanchey  provinces, and the revival of a railway service that will soon connect many Thai and Cambodian communities and contribute to more efficient trade flows. In the area of education, both the Kampong Chheuteal Institute of Technology and the Kampong Speu Institute of Technology have been models of success for other vocational institutions, and provided Cambodian youths with many opportunities to succeed. More recently, we have also worked side by side to minimise the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our economies and societies, which paves the way for even closer cooperation to address future regional and international challenges.

As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relations and in the light of the remarkable progress we have made as good neighbours and regional partners, I would like to convey, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and people of the Kingdom of Thailand, my warmest wishes to Your Excellency and the people of the Kingdom of Cambodia on this very special occasion. It is my firm belief that the friendship between Thailand and Cambodia is strong and enduring, and that our peoples, especially our new generation of young people, will continue to work together towards an even brighter future for our common peace, prosperity, and development.

Accept, Samdech Techo Prime Minister, the renewed assurances of my highest considerations.

                                              General                     (Ret.)

                                                     (Prayut Chan-o-cha)
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand

His Excellency
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN,
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia,
                                     PHNOM PENH.

On the same occasion, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, sent a congratulatory letter to H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, as follows:

Phnom Penh, 19 December 2020

His Excellency General Prayuth Chan-o-cha
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand
Bangkok

Excellency,

On behalf of the Royal Government and people of Cambodia, I would like to extend my cordial congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency, the Government and people of Thailand on the auspicious occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand.

I am delighted to note that our bilateral relations have developed tremendously since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1950. Building on the solid foundation of traditional friendship, good neighborliness and mutual understanding, our two kingdoms have broadened cooperation that has encompassed many areas of shared interests, namely politics and security, economy, trade and investment, education, connectivity and people-to-people linkages.

On this note, I would like to reaffirm my unwavering commitment to working closely with Your Excellency to elevate our long-standing partnership to a new height, particularly to overcome the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis so as to bring about peace, stability and sustainable prosperity for our two nations, the ASEAN Community and beyond.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration and best wishes for your good health and continued success in fulfilling your noble tasks for the sake of greater happiness and well-being of the people of Thailand.

HUN SEN
