On 16–17 October 2025, the Department of ASEAN Affairs and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) co-organised the Second Border Management Cooperation Dialogue for the ASEAN Region in Bangkok. In attendance were more than 60 participants from relevant border management agencies from ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste, as well as the ASEAN Secretariat.
Building on the adoption of the ASEAN Border Management Cooperation Roadmap by the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) on 10 September 2025, the Dialogue served as a platform to exchange good practices, discuss common challenges, and enhance regional cooperation to translate the Roadmap into tangible results. A shared concern among participants was the misuse of technology, particularly in relation to online scams, drug trafficking, and trafficking in persons.
The Dialogue discussed recommendations to support the implementation of the Roadmap, including enhancing digital literacy among frontline personnel and improving data collection and analysis. Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste, as well as regional and international partners, to strengthen border management cooperation and contribute to building a Resilient, Innovative, Dynamic, and People-Centred ASEAN Community.
