Visit to Saudi Arabia and Egypt of the Thai delegation to enhance understanding on the southern border provinces of Thailand among the international community and Thai Muslim students

On 13 - 15 February 2025, Mr. Pongprach Makchang, Ambassador attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with Pol. Lt. Col. Wannapong Kotcharak, Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), and both officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SBPAC, visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the said visit was to pay a courtesy call on the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and to meet with the Thai Muslim students in Saudi Arabia.

On 13 February, the Thai delegation and H.E. Mr. Darm Boontham, Ambassador of Thailand to Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the OIC, called on H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC, during which the Thai side provided an update on Thailand's southern border provinces (SBPs) in various aspects, namely socio-economic development, education and youth, as well as the role of the Government of Thailand in supporting the development efforts in the area. Moreover, the Thai side also showed interest in broadening cooperaton with the OIC ant its members in other potential fields, including halal food, youth empowerment, economics, education, and sustainable development.  

On 14-15 Febreary, the Thai delegation met approximately 130 Thai Muslim students in Saudi Arabia who were participating in the “Creative Media Skills Programme: Learning for a New Future”, a capacity-building project aiming at creating opportunities for their future career path organised by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Jeddah.  The Thai delegation also visited the Learning Center in Jeddah which is operated by the Royal Thai Consulate-General.

On 16 - 17 February 2025, Mr. Natthaphon Sapsinsoonthon, Head of the International Security Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Thai delegation comprising officials of the Ministry, SBPAC and the Office of National Security Council to visit the Arab Republic of Egypt.  The Thai delegation paid a countesy call on Professor Nahla El-Seidy, President of the Center for Education Development for Envoys and Foreign Students (CEDEFS), and discussed about further academic cooperation between Thailand and Egypt, particularly in Arabic language skills development for higher education.

Later, H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt, and the Thai delegation met the representatives of the Thai Students Association in Cairo under the Royal Patronage, as well as more than 400 Thai Muslim students in Egypt at “The Thai Food Festival 2025” organised by the Royal Thai Embassy in Cairo in collaboration with the Thai Trade Office in Cairo, and “The 21st Mini-Soccer” organised also by the Embassy.  The Thai delegation also visited food and beverage stalls run by over 40 student clubs of Thai Muslim students in Egypt.
