H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand led the Thai delegation to the United Kingdom during 29 - 30 June 2022 to participate in the 4th Thailand – United Kingdom Strategic Dialogue in London, hosted by the United Kingdom on 30 June 2022 after more than four-year absence of such bilateral consultation due to the COVID-19 situation.

The Thai Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Right Honorable Amanda Milling, Minister of State for Asia at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom co-chaired the Strategic Dialogue. Thai representatives in attendance included H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom, Mr. Asi Mamanee, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with relevant officials. Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Mark Gooding, also travelled to London to attend the meeing, together with Mrs. Joelle Jenny, Director of  South East Asia and Pacific at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, and relevant officials.

The meeting was held successfully in a constructive atmosphere. Both sides exchanged views and deliberated ways to promote and push forward concrete bilateral cooperation in various areas including political and economic cooperation, trade and investment, defence and security, public health, education, tourism and cultural cooperation, science technology and innovation, as well as coping with the consequences of the climate change and promoting sustainable growth. Both sides also reaffirmed the willingness to explore further cooperation for the ease of travel between the two countries. In addition, both sides exchanged views on multilateral and key international issues such as situation in Myanmar and Ukraine, ASEAN - EU and ASEAN - United Kingdom cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Thai and UK Co-Chairs adopted a Joint Statement of the Fourth Session of the United Kingdom-Thailand Strategic Dialogue to express joint commitment in promoting and strengthening bilateral cooperation based on the strategic partnership of the two nations. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding on Counter-Terrorism Cooperation between Thailand and the United Kingdom was signed via video-conference system by General Supot Malaniyom, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Thailand and the Right Honorable Amanda Milling, Minister of State for Asia at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, prior to the Strategic Dialogue.

During this official visit to the United Kingdom, the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand also paid a courtesy call on Sir Graham Brady, Chair of the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group during which both sides discussed ways to promote legislative cooperation and to boost exchange of visits of parliamentarians on both sides.
