On 17 March 2025, Ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys attended a certification ceremony for ethical Nuad Thai business of 17 Thai massage salons in Gothenburg and nearby cities at Scandic Gothenburg Central. The owners and masseuses of these traditional Thai massage salons are the third batch of those who have completed the training course on ethical Nuad Thai (traditional Thai massage) business, including to learn and understand relevant laws and regulations on how to run a massage salon in Sweden. The course was organised by the Thai Women in Sweden Empowerment Project (ThaiWISE), with the support from Royal Thai Embassy and other partners after the successful project in Malmö, Stockholm and nearby cities.
The certification ceremony was also attended by Mr. Martin Kihlstrand, Coordinator for Fair Competition, Environment Administration, City of Gothenburg, Ms. Panadda (Yui) Changmanee, ThaiWISE Project Manager, Ms. Mia Nilson, General Secretary, Hela Människan, owners and masseuses of participating massage salons in Gothenburg and its nearby cities.
In the opening remarks, Ambassador Arunrung reiterated that the certification project for ethical Nuad Thai business is one of the Embassy’s top priorities to empower the Thai community in Sweden. “Nuad Thai, Traditional Thai Massage” was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity under UNESCO. The Ambassador thanked all the Salons for their dedication and determination, Hela Människan, City of Gothenburg for their support to the project, in particular ThaiWise , the initiator and implementer of the project which empower Thai women in the ethical Nuad Thai business.
Before ending the remarks, Ambassador Arunrung, emphasised that the ethical Nuad Thai business should be growing steadily and sustainably across Sweden, with the standards that are maintained and improving and wishes all the salons great success in their business journey.
