The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed through the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv that on 18 October 2025, the body of Mr. Sonthaya Oakkharasri, one of the two remaining deceased Thai hostages, was retrieved from the Gaza Strip.

Mr. Sonthaya Oakkharasri was taken hostage during the attack on Israel on 7 October 2023; his death was later confirmed on 16 May 2024. The Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv has informed his family of the retrieval and is coordinating with the relevant Israeli authorities to repatriate his body to Thailand at the earliest opportunity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to once again extend its profound condolences to his family.

Thailand welcomes the progress made in the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and urges the retrieval of the last remaining body of the Thai national soonest. Thailand also calls upon all concerned parties to fully adhere to the agreed terms and exert their utmost efforts toward achieving a permanent ceasefire in order to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and advance a peaceful and lasting resolution of the conflict based on the two-State solution.
