Warning for Thai nationals to avoid violent protest areas in Dhaka, Bangladesh

According to reports of violent protests involving large groups of students in Dhaka, Bangladesh since the evening of 18 July 2024, resulting in damage to buildings and public property, blocked roads and public transportation, as well as clashes between the protesters and police officers, which have further resulted in a large number of deaths and more than 1,000 injuries.

The Bangladeshi Government has announced the suspension of telephone and internet services, as well as increased security measures in Dhaka.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed by the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka that thus far, there have been no reports of Thai nationals or Thai students being affected by the situation. The Ministry would also like to warn Thai nationals in Dhaka to avoid traveling near protest areas and may consider refraining from unnecessary travel outside of their residences during this time. Thai nationals are also encouraged to closely follow news, warnings and other related instructions from the local authorities.
