On 29 September 2025, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Jane Duke, Ambassador to Counter Modern Slavery, People Smuggling and Human Trafficking, via a video message, jointly delivered opening remarks at the event “Regional Conference on Online Scam Centre Response and Coordination,“ which was attended by participants from countries across Southeast Asia and featured panelists and experts from government, private sectors, civil society organizations, and international organizations.
The Deputy PS reaffirmed Thailand's commitment in tackling online scams, which is a complex and multi-faceted issue that transcends borders. The meeting also underscored the need to strengthen multisectoral and inter-agency cooperation within the country and the regional cooperation to address such challenge. Participants also discussed various aspects of online scams, particularly the prevention, the prosecution and investigation of online scams, the protection of trafficked victims rescued from scam centers, including the victim-centered and trauma-informed approaches, as well as the role of technology, particularly social media companies and service providers. In addition, Mr. Phuchphop Mongkolnavin, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, and Mr. Marvin Anwar Arpan, Minister-Counsellor, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, delivered the closing remarks.
The Ministry, in collaboration with the Regional Support Office (RSO) of the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime, co-organized the event during 29 - 30 September 2025 to enhance capacity of practitioners and to strengthen inter-agency cooperation within the country, as well as regional cooperation in combating online scams and trafficking in persons in the context of online scams.
