On 26 August 2024, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, presented Thailand’s financial contribution of 9,000,000 Baht or about 280,000 US dollars to Mr. Lee Yam Ming, Executive Director of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Also present at the ceremony were H.E. Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun, Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar, as well as Ambassadors and representatives from ASEAN member states' missions in Bangkok.

This financial contribution builds on Thailand's previous efforts to assist the affected population in Myanmar, including through various international organisations and the pilot project of cross-border humanitarian initiative between the Thai and Myanmar Red Cross Societies in March 2024. It would increase the amount of critical humanitarian assistance that the AHA Centre would deliver to affected population in the hard-to-reach areas in Myanmar without discrimination.

The donation reaffirms Thailand’s strong support for the Lao PDR, as the current ASEAN Chair, to advance the implementation of the ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus.

On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun, Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar, and Mr. Lee Yam Ming, Executive Director of the AHA Centre expressed their appreciation for Thailand’s constructive role and contribution, as well as steadfast commitment to expanding humanitarian assistance to reach more people in need in Myanmar.
