On 23 November 2023, Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, attended the reception on the occasion of Belgian King’s Day and the 155th Anniversary of Thailand-Belgium relations, which was established with the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1868.

On behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Secretary conveyed his good wishes to His Majesty King Philippe of the Belgians and Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians. He also highlighted the long-standing and amicable ties between two Royal Households, from the Royal visit to Belgium of His Majesty King Rama V during His Majesty’s first trip to Europe in 1897 to the Royal Visit to Thailand of Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, as Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Belgium in 2013.

Permanent Secretary also reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to work with Belgium at bilateral and multilateral levels, especially the negotiations of the Thai-EU Free Trade Agreement, and the implementation of the Thailand-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
