On December 3, 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm hosted a reception on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, National Day, and Father’s Day, 5 December 2024 at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel, with more than 150 attendees, including members of the diplomatic corps and prominent figures in Sweden, as well as Thai diplomatic mission and staff of Team Thailand, representatives from government agencies, local administrations, academia, and the business sector in Sweden.
On this occasion, Ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys delivered a welcome remark, highlighting the longstanding relationship between Thailand and Sweden, which has developed into a valued and trusted partnership. The Ambassador also touched upon significant events reflecting this relationship over the past year, such as the Child Protection Summit 2024, graciously attended by Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand and Queen Silvia of Sweden. Other key events included the official visit to Thailand in November 2024 by Sweden's Minister for Foreign Affairs, during which bilateral meetings were held with Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. The Ambassador emphasized bilateral and multilateral collaborations in areas such as economic development, international security, and the value of Thai communities in Sweden. Ambassador also extended an invitation for Sweden to continue its cooperation with Thailand in areas supporting innovation-led growth and economic diplomacy to promote sustainability and expand opportunities for international economic partnerships.
In the subsequent remark, Mr. Andreas Carlson, Sweden's Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, expressed Sweden’s enthusiasm to contribute in fields of Sweden’s expertise, to support sustainable economic development. He noted the thriving trade and investment relations between the two countries. Regarding multilateral issues, as both Thailand and Sweden dedicate to multilateral cooperation and a rules-based order, Sweden supports Thailand in economic negotiations and agreements to contribute to the resilience of global value chains and promote sustainable trade practices. The Minister also emphasized that the long-standing ties between Thailand and Sweden provide a foundation for exploring future collaborations opportunities.
At the reception, the Embassy showcased Thai cuisine, fruit and vegetable carving, traditional Thai dance performances, and promotional activities for Thai tourism and products.
