On 3 November 2022, the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, in cooperation with Siam Cement Group (SCG), organized a roadshow to introduce SCG, one of Thailand’s largest conglomerates, to the ROK business community. The roadshow consisted of a seminar in the morning entitled “SCG Business Seminar : Exploring Partnerships & Opportunities” at The Plaza Hotel Seoul. In the event, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK delivered opening remarks along with Mr. Nithi Patarachoke, President of SCG Cement and Building Materials, followed by presentations by SCG executives on SCG’s current businesses and new areas that the company is working to diversify into such as smart living, EV, green construction, smart factory, etc. A total of around 60 participants were in attendance from various ROK companies and economic agencies/associations, such as Samsung C&T, POSCO, Hanwha Solutions, LS Electric, Lotte E&C, KITA and KOTRA. The Director of BOI (Seoul Office) also presented on investment incentives offered by the Thai government in the relevant industries.

The seminar helped create awareness among the ROK business community about the potential of Thai conglomerates, such as SCG, that have gained recognition internationally, and served as a valuable starting point for business people from the two sides to network and kick-off collaboration in the future.

In the afternoon, the Embassy partnered with LS Electric to arrange a study visit for the SCG team at LS Electric’s smart factory in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province – which was awarded the “Lighthouse Factory” award from the World Economic Forum in 2021. From this study visit, SCG and LS Electric identified potential areas for collaboration such as microgrid and Energy Storage System (ESS).
