On 12 September 2022, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, met with Ms. Mona Berger, Deputy Mayor of Trondheim. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Forde Nystuen, Deputy Mayor’s political advisor and Ms. Potchamas Saengthien, Counsellor.

 

Ambassador Vimolbajra informed the Deputy Mayor of the importance of the historical relationship between Thailand and Norway, dated back to the visit of King Chulalongkorn to Norway in 1907, only 2 years after Norway gained independence. Thailand is considered among the first friends of Norway. At present, the bilateral relations are dynamic. The purpose of this first visit of Ambassador Vimolbajra to Trondheim was to learn about Trondheim, by meeting with relevant sectors of Trondheim, namely, Mid-Norway Chamber of Commerce and Industry, OKEA ASA, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and also to provide mobile consular services to the Thai community in Trondheim and nearby cities.

 

Ambassador Vimolbajra thanked the Trondheim municipality for taking a good care of Thai community of about 1,000 population in Trondheim. As Trondheim is known as the gourmet capital of Norway, Ambassador Vimolbajra hoped that the 8 Thai restaurants in Trondheim, being popular among Norwegians, can further add flavours to the gastronomy of Trondheim especially as Trondheim will host Bocuse d’Or competition in 2024. The Deputy Mayor recounted her visit at Tao Island in Thailand with fond memories and her love for Thai food. She also commended the Thai community in Trondheim for being well integrated with the Norwegian society.

 

During the meeting, Ambassador Vimolbajra presented the book “Hundred Years Between” to the Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Mayor presented Ambassador Vimolbajra with a book about Trondheim as a token of appreciation.
