On 1 February 2023, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, hosted Working Lunch for Mr. Fredrik Skoglunn, Assistant Chief of Police, Oslo, National Police Directorate, Ms. Tove Foss Møller, Detective Superintendent, South-East Police District, Ms. Ragnhild Nordaas, Director General, Department of Working Environment and Safety, and Ms. Mona Næss, Deputy Director General, Department of Working Environment and Safety, Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion, to discuss and exchange views about Thai massage parlors with concealed sex trade in Norway.
Ambassador Ruksakiati presented the project on empowerment of Thai massage in Norway, a joint initiative between the Embassy and the Thai Women’s Association in Norway. The objectives of the project are to promote traditional/ethical Thai massage in Norway, to elevate the standard of Thai massage and thereby, result in the empowerment of Thai women in Norway. This is a way-forward efforts to address the issue of Thai massage in Norway in comprehensive and constructive ways. Both Norwegian agencies agreed that this is a good initiative and expressed support for this project and will provide cooperation in the training courses on Norwegian laws and regulations relevant to the setting up and operating ethical Thai massage in Norway.
Representatives from the Norwegian National Police Directorate and the Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion agreed with the Ambassador’s proposal to enhance closer cooperation with the Embassy on information campaign, especially on information sharing between the Embassy, the National Police Directorate, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion, in order to more effectively disseminate useful information to Thai community in Norway. The information campaign will also enable closer communication between the Norwegian National Police Directorate and the Thai community, especially those who are in need of assistance.
In this regard, the representatives from the Norwegian National Police Directorate would like to provide useful contacts of organizations that provide assistance for Thai community as follows, ROSA, an independent organization, lending help to those who experience threat, violence, feel controlled or pressured, can be reached at 22 33 11 60 or http://rosa-help.no/, Caritas, an organization under the Catholic church, reaching out to the poor, vulnerable and excluded, can be reached at 23 33 43 60 or https://www.caritas.no/, and the National Police Directorate, in case of crisis or emergency, can be reached at 112 or 02800 or https://www.politiet.no/. The Embassy was given assurances that Norwegian law enforcement agencies will continue to provide protection and assistance to the Thai community in Norway.
Ambassador Ruksakiati also took the opportunity to invite Mr. Fredrik Skoglunn, Assistant Chief of Police, Oslo and Ms. Tove Foss Møller, Detective Superintendent, South-East Police District, to visit and inspect the Consular section of the Embassy to discuss and seek advices on the security aspect of the Consular Section and some misdemeanor incidents the Consular Section has encountered from those who came for consular services.
Ambassador Ruksakiati invited both Norwegian agencies to participate in an event to promote Thai food and traditional Thai massage for the Female Ambassadors in Oslo at the Embassy in September 2023. This event will promote Thainess as well as ethical Thai massage in Norway by means of women-to-women empowerment.
