The Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), organised the contemporary art exhibition under the theme “75th Anniversary: A Portrait of Indo – Thai Friendship” at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, during 20 – 31 August 2022. This exhibition is a part of a series of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and India this year.
The contemporary art exhibition displays 75 masterpieces of artworks to coincide with the 75th Anniversary of Thailand and India relations as well as the 75 years of India’s independence. The exhibition comprises 50 paintings from Thai artists and 20 paintings from Indian artists supporting by the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Art Center in Thailand and ICCR respectively. It is aimed to showcase the convergence of two different cultures of Thailand and India into one single unit and, at the same time, feature the similarities, uniqueness and diversities of both countries’ cultures, through the artworks’ techniques, styles and expressions.
The inauguration ceremony of this exhibition was held on 20 August 2022 and presided over by H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador of Thailand to India. Shri Kumar Tuhin, Director-General of the ICCR, graced this event as the Chief Guest. Participants at the event were foreign dignitaries, Indian artists, high-level officers from relevant governmental organisations of India and members of the media as well as renowned Thai artists led by Dr. Sangkom Thongmee, Driector of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Art Center and Mr. Saravudth Duangjumpa, Thailand’s National Artist 2017. The audience had a rare chance to observe artists’ techniques and styles during the special live painting on stage. It was also a great opportunity for both Thai and Indian artists to interact and exchange their knowledge and specialties on arts.
A series of events to commemorate the 75 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and India have been organised throughout this year by the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi and the Royal Thai Consulate Generals in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai, including other Thai governmental agencies in India with the aim to enhancing bilateral relations and closer ties between the two countries and peoples.
