On 23 June 2023, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia hosted a Press Conference for the Thai Film Festival in Malaysia 2023: Bridging Thainess to International Audience to be held during 13 – 16 July 2023. The Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Royal Thai Embassy and Suraya Filem Production & Distribution SDN BHD were also organized. Malaysian media, Thai and Malaysian partners of the Film Festival, together with Team Thailand members of approximately 70 individuals participated in the event.

In her welcoming remarks, H.E. Ambassador Lada emphasized the close and cordial relations between the Embassy and its Malaysian partners and Malaysian Thai Fanclubs, who will be significant to the success of the Thai Film Festival this year. The Festival itself will be a great opportunity for all friends to get to know Thailand and the Thai people much better. She had also answered questions raised the media, such as the background of the MOU to enhance cooperate between the Thai and Malaysian film industry, as well as the Embassy’s engagement with the Malaysian students studying Thai in the Festival to nurture their intimate feelings towards Thailand.

H.E. Ambassador Lada, on behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, and Mr. Shures Ratnakrishnan, Director of Suraya Filem Production & Distribution, an official Thai film distributor in Malaysia, signed the MOU on promoting cooperation of Thai and Malaysian films, content and entertainment production.

The Thai Film Festival in Malaysia 2023: Bridging Thainess to International Audience will feature five renowned films from Thailand to the eyes of Malaysians, namely; Faces of Anne, Love Destiny the Movie, Fast and Feel Love, Haunted Universities 2nd Semester, and an all-time Malaysians’ favorite classic Rom-Com, Friend Zone. The public screening will take place at four selected GSC cinemas in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya, which are GSC Mid Valley, GSC 1 Utama, GSC MyTown, and GSC IOI City Mall. The tickets are without expenses!

The participants to the event, especially the Malaysian media, were touched by the official trailer of the Thai Film to be shown at the Festival. The Press Conference was of friendly ambience. The canapés of Thai food and desserts, i.e. Grilled Chicken Sticky Rice, Pad Thai with Shrimp, Mi Grob Kratong Thong, Pinched Gold Egg Yolk, Bulan Dan Mek, and Kao Neow Mamuang (Mango Sticky rice), were widely enjoyed throughout, all of which created warm feelings for the upcoming Thai Film Festival.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur hosted the previous Thai Film Festival in Malaysia back 2019. For 2023, there will be special activities during the 4-day event Festival. An exclusive Meet and Greet with Thai movie stars will be organized on 13 July 2023, the day of which the Thai Film Festival in Malaysia in 2023 will be officially launched.
