On 15 September 2023, Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata met with Prof. Sumantra Bose, Director of Netaji Research Bureau and grandson of Sarat Chandra Bose (Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s elder brother) to discuss a possibility to promote academic cooperation on the history of Indo-Thai relations associated with Subhas Chandra Bose. Subhas Chandra Bose was a prominent leader of Indian Independence Movement and Commander of the Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj). After the meeting, Consul-General also paid a visit to Netaji Bhawan Museum, former residence of Subhas Chandra Bose.

Subhas Chandra Bose played a pivotal role in mobilising manpower and fundings for Indian Independence Movement in Southeast Asia, where a significant number of Indian diasporas resided. He visited Thailand a least 8 times between 1943 – 1945. He also made a donation to Chulalongkorn University and Chulalongkorn Hospital, which has become ‘Subhas Chandra Bose Award’ for accomplished students in the Faculty of Arts, and supported the construction of ‘Dharma Centre’ to serve as the University’s centre for religious studies.
