On 15 May 2022, Thailand’s Visakha Puja or Vesak Day, which commemorates the Birth, the Enlightenment and the Parinirvana of Lord Buddha, a delegation comprising Miss Acharapan Yavaprapas, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, Mr. Nitirooge Phoneprasert, Consul-General of Thailand in Chennai and Mr. Donnawit Poolsawat, Consul-General of Thailand in Mumbai, along with diplomats and officers from the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata, Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chennai and Thai Trade Office in Chennai, participated in Buddhist Alms Offering, International Buddhist Chanting and Buddhist Robe Offering Ceremonies at the Royal Thai Monastery Buddhagaya in Bodhgaya, Gaya, Bihar.
This was considered the first big Buddhist gathering reuniting 4 diplomatic missions of the Kingdom of Thailand in the Republic of India, for the cause of perpetuating Buddhist traditions in the Land of the Lord Buddha.
In the evening of the same day, the Consuls-General of Thailand in Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai, along with Thai diplomats and officers, participated in the Buddhist chanting under the Sacred Bodhi Tree, followed by the candle-lit or “circumambulation” ceremony at Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhgaya.
