On 24 March 2023, Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, inaugurated Thai Food Festival ‘Treasures of Thailand’ held by Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata. The Festival is held from 24 March – 2 April 2023 and curated by Chef Vina, celebrity Thai chef who has over 30 years of global experience particularly in India. Famous Thai dishes such as Som Tam (Papaya Salad), Green Curry, Pad Krapow (Thai basil stir-fry), Pad Thai and Hor Mok Pla (steamed fish in banana leaf) are featured throughout the Festival including other street food dishes with new menu every day. At the inauguration, the dancing of the song ‘Som Tam’ was performed. The lyrics was composed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn about the ingredients and cooking method of Som Tam, while the dance movement employs mortar and pestle, which are important cooking instruments for Som Tam.
