On 18-19 January 2023, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata and Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) Mumbai Office co-hosted a seminar on ‘Business and Investment Opportunities in Thailand: Support Measure by Thai Government, and BCG (Bio-Green-Circular) Economy and Healthcare’ in partnership with the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I) and the Indo-Thai Chamber of Commerce (West Bengal Chapter) and More than 70 participants attended the seminar.
Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata inaugurated the seminar at BCC&I on 19 January 2023 which focused on BCG Economy and healthcare. She highlighted the potentials of the target industries selected by BOI; namely, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and bio-chemical. All 3 sectors are classified as future growth industries or New S-Curve and possess very high growth potentials due to the need for every countries to adapt and co-exist with COVID-19. These 3 sectors are also in line with the Royal Thai Government’s policy on BCG (Bio-Circular-Green) Economy Model, in which Thailand has numerous advantages including high-skilled workforce in medical and wellness industries, abundant biological resources, and easy access to ASEAN market. Moreover, Mr. Chanin Khaochan, Deputy Secretary-General of BOI also delivered welcoming remarks, and Mr. Kampanart Preechawai, BOI officer gave a lecture on the development of Thai medical and BCG industries via teleconference from Thailand.
Earlier on 18 January 2023, Mr. Nanthapol Sudbanthad, Director of BOI Mumbai Office also gave lecture for members of the Indo-Thai Chamber of Commerce (West Bengal Chapter) on investment opportunities in Thailand and support measures by Thai Government, including the creation of new visa category ‘Long Term Resident Visa’.
BCC&I is India’s oldest chamber of commerce established in 1853. It has strong networks in Eastern India, focusing on medical, wellness and renewable industries, among other areas. On the other hand, the Indo-Thai Chamber of Commerce (West Bengal Chapter), formerly known as the West Bengal-Thailand Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was established in 2016 by a group of businesspersons in West Bengal with the interest to do business with Thailand.
