Thai Representatives in Jeddah attended the 20th Session
of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the OIC
On 18th December 2022, officials from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Jeddah attended the opening ceremony and observed a thematic debate of the 20th Session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) along with representatives of the OIC member countries and relevant international organizations.
Thematic debate of the Session is organized under the topic of "Right to Family Life: Islamic and Human Rights Perspectives to Counter Challenges to the Institution of Marriage" which delved into an issue of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) with a view to bridge and create a linkage between a normative gap on the issue between the East and the West. The Session also included a Signing Ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the IPHRC and the Malaysian National Human Rights Council.
Thailand's observation at the Session is an opportunity to learn different views from the OIC countries toward the issue which will be beneficial for a policy formulation in the international fora.
