On 30 November 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha, in collaboration with the Thai community in Qatar, Thai Language and Thai Culture School in Qatar, and a group of Muay Thai instructors in Qatar, organized the “Thai Souq Fest 2024: A Celebration of Flavors, Culture, and Muay Thai” at the Embassy grounds. This special event followed the successful promotion of Thai tourism at the Qatar Travel Mart (QTM) 2024 held from 25 – 27 November 2024. The “Thai Souq Fest 2024” attracted over 700 attendees, including members of the Thai community, Qatari nationals, expatriates, foreign diplomats, media representatives, and social media influencers in Qatar.
The festival underscored the unity of the Thai community in Qatar in showcasing Thailand’s rich cultural heritage and unique identity across multiple dimensions. The event sought to promote Thai culture and strengthen people-to-people connections through a wide range of activities, including: food stalls, merchandise, and services from over 25 Thai-owned businesses and community representatives in Qatar, traditional Thai cultural performances by the Thai Language and Thai Culture School in Qatar, Thai classical dance presentations, demonstrations and performances of Muay Thai, Thai massage services, a photo booth featuring traditional Thai costumes, lucky draws with gift vouchers generously donated by Thai businesses in Qatar.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Sira Swangsilpa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the State of Qatar, highlighted the Embassy’s commitment to fostering collaboration with all sectors, strengthening ties between the peoples of Thailand and Qatar, and promoting culture through the engagement of the Thai community in Qatar which is the foundation for advancing Thailand-Qatar relations in all aspects. H.E. Ambassador also noted the significance of the “Thai Souq Fest 2024,” which coincided with Thailand’s national celebrations, including the the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, and Thailand's Father's Day on 5 December 2024.
The Royal Thai Embassy extends its sincere appreciation to members of the Thai community in Qatar for their invaluable contributions to the success of the Thai Souq Fest 2024. Their efforts serve as a bridge for promoting Thai culture and values, and they play an essential role in further strengthening Thailand-Qatar relations across all dimensions.
