On August 21, 2024, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chicago, in collaboration with the International House at the University of Chicago, hosted a special lecture by H.E.Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States.
 
In his lecture titled "Thailand-ASEAN-U.S. Partnership in an Era of Global-Regional Change and Challenges: Obstacles, Opportunities, and Options," Dr. Suriya Chindawongse provided an in-depth discussion on the history of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the relationships between Thailand, ASEAN, and the United States, highlighting opportunities, options and strength of the ASEAN to foster the ASEAN-US relationships amidst the changing geopolitic and the conflict of superpowers in the region. In the Q&A session, Dr. Suriya Chindawongse engaged with participants by offering insights on various topics. The session was moderated by Prof. John Mark Hansen, the Charles L. Hutchinson Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Political Science and the College at the University of Chicago.
