On 28 February 2024, Ambassador Chatchawan Sakornsin, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Kazakhstan, delivered his speech on “the overview of economy and trade in Kazakhstan” as part of the online trade seminar on "Unlock the Landlocked Markets in Central Asia: Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan", organized by the Department of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand.

On this occasion, Ambassador Chatchawan highlighted key areas in Thailand-Kazakhstan’s cooperation based on the Central Asia’s Strategy, outlined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thialand. In the trade sphere, Thailand aims to increase trade volume with Kazakhtan to 500 million USD by 2027. Other potential aspects of bilateral cooperation also include tourism and medical tourism, education, and culture.

In addition, Ambassador Chatchawan also underscored some challenges in the economic relations between Thailand and Kazakhstan. These comprise the trade routes and logistics between the two countries. To this end, Thailand can explore options by considering Kazakhstan’s growing potential of transforming from the landlocked to land-linked country by strengthening its Trans-Caspian International Transport Route or Middle Corridor. Gearing toward the conclusion of FTA between Thailand and the EAEU will also significantly help reduce import duties on goods from Thailand to Kazakhstan, increasing more trade opportunities for Thailand in Kazakhstan.
