On 4 April 2025, H.E. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, had a meeting with Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. The two leaders exchanged views on economic cooperation, trade and investment, particularly tourism, gem and jewellery industry, sustainable maritime development, culture, people-to-people relations, and the promotion of Buddhist linkages as part of the shared cultural heritage. Both sides also discussed cooperation within the BIMSTEC framework focusing on tackling transnational crime.
