H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand
On the occasion of “United Nations Day 2025”
Friday, 24 October 2025
On the occasion of United Nations Day 2025, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I would like to congratulate the United Nations on the 80th anniversary of its creation and commend its role in promoting peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights throughout the past eight decades. As a member of the United Nations, Thailand reaffirms its commitment to working with the UN to advance these agendas and to promote multilateral system, with the United Nations Charter as its core.
Although the United Nations was established 80 years ago, our world continues to face a series of overlapping and complex crises—from protracted conflicts in various regions, inequalities, to natural disasters driven by climate change, environmental degradation, food energy, and health securities as well as emerging challenge arise from rapid technological change. The Royal Thai Government views these issues as critical that need urgent solutions. However, addressing such complex challenges is beyond the capacity of any single nation but cooperation of the global community, with the United Nations serving as the central driving force behind such collective effort.
Over the past 80 years, Thailand has actively contributed to the work of the United Nations across its three main pillars mentioned earlier.
In the area of peace and security, Thailand is firmly committed to the principles of peaceful means, respect for international law, and adherence to the UN Charter. We believe these principles are fundamental to fostering stability and security at both global and regional levels, as well as to resolving international conflicts through peaceful dialogue and in good faith. Thailand has also contributed to UN peacekeeping operations, having deployed both military and police personnel to more than 20 missions worldwide. Furthermore, Thailand places great importance to promoting the role of women peacekeepers and advancing sustainable development alongside our peacebuilding efforts in affected areas. In this regard, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all Thai peacekeepers, whose selfless dedication to humanity has brought great honor to Thailand in the eyes of the international community.
In the area of sustainable development, Thailand is pleased that the country’s development approach, based on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, has gained international recognition. This approach aligns closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aims to strike the balance between economic growth and the sustainability of natural resources, with the ultimate goal of truly ensuring well-being for all citizens.
We are also forging ahead in our mission to improve the quality of life, reduce inequality, and build a more just society. The government places importance on achieving universal health coverage for all households, expanding economic opportunities to the regions, and pursuing people-centered development. We are also committed to equitable education, so that every citizen, in every corner of the country, can truly enjoy a better life.
In addition, Thailand is honored to have earned the trust of the international community in serving as the hub of the United Nations in the region. Bangkok has been the host to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), as well as more than 40 UN agencies and entities. I would like to reaffirm Thailand’s commitment to serve as good host as entrusted to us by the international community.
Lastly, I would like to stress that the work of the UN is not an issue distant from us. This is because Thailand is part of the international community and stands ready to work with the other 192 UN Member States to advance key global agendas that benefit both our country and the world at large. In this regard, I would like to extend my best wishes to the UN Secretary-General. Please rest assured that Thailand stands ready to support the UN work in all dimensions, including the Secretary-General’s UN80 Initiative, aimed at reforming the United Nations to better respond to the changing global landscape.
May this United Nations Day serve as an inspiration for stronger cooperation among all stakeholders, for the betterment of all humanity, and a more peaceful and sustainable world for future generations.
