On 27 November 2024, Ms. Cataleya Phatoomros, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, attended the 2024 International Volunteer Day event under the theme “People Care and Environment Care through Volunteering Activities.” The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the Thai Volunteer Service (TVS), and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) at the Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives (Suan Mokkh Bangkok).
The Deputy Director-General gave a remarks highlighting the crucial role of volunteers and volunteer work in driving sustainable development and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since volunteers play a key role in promoting unity and harmony in society, as well as serving as catalysts for change. She also emphasised the Ministry’s work, through the Department of International Cooperation (TICA), in carrying out the “Friends from Thailand (FFT)” volunteer program, which has facilitated Thai youths’ participation in overseas volunteer missions. This program enables exchanges of knowledge and experience, as well as empowers Thai youth through volunteer work. In addition, the UN has designated 2026 as the “International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development” to underscore the significance of volunteering for sustainable development. The Ministry stands ready to support the efforts of all stakeholders and volunteers.
The event featured various activities, including the “Volunteer Insights” panel discussion to share experiences on volunteering during crises, an exhibition showcasing diverse volunteer initiatives, and the “A Ripple of Kindness” activity, which encouraged participants to donate essential items for recovery to those affected by natural disasters.
