On 4 December 2025, Royal Thai Consulate-General, Penang, hosted a reception on the occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Thailand’s Father’s Day 5 December 2025 at G Hotel Gurney, Penang. The reception was attended by YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, as the Guest of Honour and more than 200 guests from the consular corps in Penang, high-level representatives from Malaysian public and private sectors, academics, friends of Thailand, and the Thai community, from Penang, Kedah, Perlis, and Northern Perak.
At the reception, H.E. Mr. Psusist Wongsurawat, Consul-General of Thailand in Penang led guests to observed a minute of silence for 93 seconds to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, followed by a documentary regarding the royal works of Her Majesty. Afterwards, H.E. Mr. Psusist gave a speech highlighting the royal works and contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother to develop Thailand and improve the lives of Thai people in the rural areas, as well as reviving, preserving, and promoting culture and craftmanship of Thailand, such as Khon and Thai Silk, to the world stage.
Furthermore, H.E. Mr. Psusist placed an emphasis on the long bilateral relations between Thailand and Penang through history, royal visits, culture and people-to-people exchange, which shaped the relations of Thailand and Penang as friends with strong bonds. Penang, also benefits from the increasing relations in terms of trade, investment and tourism between Thailand and Malaysia, particularly in the Northern part of Malaysia.
The reception featured musical compositions of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Khon traditional masked dance performance as the pinnacle and highest form of Thai traditional artistic performance, which is preserved and promoted by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, fruits and vegetable craving exhibition, banana leaf weaving, and an AI-generated photo booth (AI Snap) to promote the eight styles of traditional Thai costumes. In addition, the event was generously supported by the Thai private sectors in Malaysia, showcasing varieties of Thai food and desserts.
