On 12-14 June 2024, Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Director-General of the Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs, attended the third Congress of the Members of the Court on the occasion of the 125th Anniversary of the PCA at the Peace Palace, The Hague, Netherlands. On the sidelines of the Congress, the Director-General paid courtesy visits to to the following persons:

 

During the courtesy visit paid to Mr. Marcin Czepelak, Secretary-General of the PCA, the Director-General reiterated Thailand’s support for the PCA’s work in the peaceful settlement of international disputes.

 

During the courtesy visit paid to Mr. Philippe Gautier, Registrar of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Director-General reiterated Thailand’s commitment to international law and Thailand’s constructive role in international law, including through the submission of Thailand’s written statement on the questions submitted to the ICJ for an advisory opinion on Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change.

 

During the Director-General’s courtesy visit paid to Mr. Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), both sides exchanged views on Thailand’s process in becoming party to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (Apostille Convention).

 

During the Director-General’s courtesy visit paid to Mr. Jean-Marc Thouvenin, Secretary-General of the Hague Academy of International Law, both sides exchanged views on Thailand’s cooperation with the Hague Academy, namely in the Hague Academy’s summer and winter courses in public and private international law and the Programme on Demand.

 

Furthermore, the Director-General participated as a panellist in the panel discussion titled “Women’s Equal and Inclusive Representation in the Members of the PCA and the International Court of Justice”, organised by GQUAL Campaign. The Director-General shared views on the importance of the representation, capacity-building to promote qualified and inclusive workforce in international organizations, as well as the consideration of women and intersectionality.
