On 27 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, co-chaired the 10th Meeting of Thailand - India Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JC) at Hyderabad House, New Delhi, India.

Both sides reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting closer cooperation across all dimensions, particularly defense and security, economic and social ties. They welcomed progress made in trade and investment and set the goal to double bilateral trade to 35 billion US dollars by 2027.

Both sides recognized the advantages of enhancing connectivity through the implementation of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway project, the revision of the Air Services Agreement, and participation of India in Thailand’s Landbridge Project.

The meeting also acknowledged closer people-to-people ties with over 1.6 million Indian tourists visiting Thailand in 2023 resulted from Thailand’s temporary visa exemption scheme granted to Indian tourists and close collaboration in bringing the holy relics of Lord Buddha and his disciples Arahanta Sariputta and Arahanta Maha Moggallana to be temporarily enshrined in Thailand during February – March 2024. This gesture reflects the deeply rooted religious and cultural linkages between the two countries.

The Ministers discussed collaboration under other sub-regional and regional frameworks, including ASEAN, ACMECS, MGC, IORA, and BIMSTEC of which Thailand is the current Chair, as well as within the United Nations framework. They exchanged views on regional and international developments. Thailand also announced interest in being a co-lead country, alongside Australia, in maritime ecology under India's Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiatives (IPOI).

The two Ministers signed the Agreed Minutes of the meeting and witnessed the exchange of MOU between the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand and the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur of the Ministry of Ayush of India, on the Establishment of an Academic Collaboration in Ayurveda and Thai Traditional Medicine.

In the evening, DPM/FM also paid a courtesy call on Shri Jagdeep Shankar, Vice President of India, to reiterate the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
