On 12 March 2024, Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, briefed the diplomatic corps of OECD member countries on “Thailand’s Request for OECD Membership” at Narathip Auditorium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

Director-General Cherdchai emphasised Thailand’s readiness to join the OECD and underscored the mutual interests for Thailand and OECD members in enhancing competitiveness; promoting investment; improving sustainability and good governance standards; driving green transition; and promoting shared values. He also highlighted the longstanding Thailand-OECD cooperation.

Comprising 38 Member States, OECD is an international organisation that plays a vital part in shaping international policies in the economic, social and development areas. On 26 December 2023, the Thai Cabinet approved Thailand’s submission of a Letter of Intent, expressing Thailand’s intention to join the OECD, and assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the National Economic and Social Development Council to be the key agencies to drive forward the Thailand’s accession process to the OECD.
