Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs reaffirmed support for the Ministerial Conference of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) under the theme “Smarter, Greener and More Inclusive ASEAN” at the Eighth Steering Group Meeting

On 9 December 2021, Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Director-General, Department of International Economic Affairs, co-chaired the Eighth Steering Group Meeting of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) via video conference to discuss the way forward for ASEAN-OECD collaboration and the preparations of the Ministerial Conference in 2022 in Seoul.

On this occasion, the Director-General stressed the importance of ASEAN-OECD partnerships to advance the implementation of ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and shared ideas on how to achieve this goal, including (1) adopting digital solutions and harmonising relevant digital economy rules for Smarter ASEAN, (2) advancing the ASEAN Green Agenda on clean energy transition and green finance for Greener ASEAN and (3) reskilling the workforce for industries of the future and ensuring fairer competition for SMEs for More Inclusive ASEAN.

In addition, the Director-General reaffirmed Thailand’s full support for the SEARP Ministerial Conference to be held in 2022 in Seoul under the theme “Human-centred Future: Partnership for a Smarter, Greener and More Inclusive ASEAN” and congratulated Australia and Viet Nam on being designated as the next SEARP co-chairs.

SEARP was launched in 2014 to promote ASEAN-OECD collaboration by supporting regional integration efforts, promoting domestic reform processes and bringing Southeast Asia closer to the OECD bodies, standards and good practices. The programme covers 13 areas of collaboration, such as investment, tax, green recovery, tourism and MSMEs. Thailand has co-chaired the SEARP with the Republic of Korea since 2018.
