Thailand and New Zealand discussed ways in enhancing cooperation to support post COVID-19 recovery at the 12th Thailand -New Zealand Senior Officials' Talks

The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Deputy Secretary of Americas and Asia Group, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand co-chaired the 12th Thailand – New Zealand Senior Officials' Talks. Both sides discussed ways in enhancing cooperation to support Post COVID-19 recovery, as well as exchanged views on regional issues and developments.

On June 15th, 2022, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Mark Sinclair, Deputy Secretary of Americas and Asia Group, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, co-chaired the 12th Thailand – New Zealand Senior Officials' Talks (SOTs) via video conference. Both sides discussed and exchanged views on the domestic political and economic situation, as well as ways to enhance cooperation towards sustainable Post COVID-19 recovery in all dimensions, especially in sectors that are in line with Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) Economy Model and New Zealand’s 30-year economic plan such as public health, climate change, renewable energy, agriculture, and dairy technology, and food innovation, as well as the strengthening of people-to-people connectivity through increasing cooperation in the educational and sustainable tourism sectors. Thailand also expressed appreciation towards New Zealand’s plan to fully reopen her borders on 31st July 2022.

In addition, both sides exchanged views on important regional strategic developments including the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), ASEAN, Mekong sub-region, ACMECS, as well as the situation in Myanmar and Ukraine. On this occasion, New Zealand also reiterated the importance of ASEAN and reaffirmed strong support for Thailand as APEC host in 2022.
