The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, discussing ways to enhance “Strengthened Strategic Partnership” between Thailand and Vietnam in all dimensions and to increase trade and investment as well as economic linkages between each other.
 
On 19 May 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, held a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to discuss ways to further enhance Thailand – Vietnam cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. Both sides agreed to work closely to further advance the “Strengthened Strategic Partnership” and expressed their support for regular exchange of high-level visits and consultations through existing bilateral mechanisms, such as the Political Consultation Group (PCG), the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), and the Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR). They also discussed activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Thailand – Vietnam diplomatic relations this year.
 
Both sides also attached high importance to further promoting bilateral trade and investment, and strengthening the economic linkages between the two countries. The Thai side appreciated the Vietnamese side’s commitment to continue supporting Thai investors in Vietnam, who have played a constructive role in the socio-economic development of Vietnam.
 
In addition, Thailand and Vietnam agreed to strengthen cooperation at the sub-regional and regional levels, including, among others, in the ASEAN framework. The Thai side congratulated Vietnam for the successful Chairmanship of the United Nations Security Council for the month of April 2021. The Vietnamese side pledged support for Thailand’s upcoming APEC hosting in 2022. The Deputy Foreign Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand extended his invitation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam to pay a visit to Thailand in the near future. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam accepted the invitation with pleasure.
