Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed with H.E. U Myo Myint Than, Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand, on the implementation of the 5-Point Consensus of ASEAN Leaders and cooperation to address bilateral issues during the Myanmar Ambassador’s farewell call.
On 1 July 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, met H.E. U Myo Myint Than, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Thailand, who made a farewell call upon the end of his tenure in Thailand.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed appreciation to the Myanmar Ambassador for the latter’s active role during his 4-year term in enhancing the bilateral relations between Thailand and Myanmar.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his wish to see the situation in Myanmar be resolved, emphasising the importance of dialogue among parties concerned to find peaceful resolution. He also conveyed the need for Myanmar to work with ASEAN to implement the Five-Point Consensus of the ASEAN Leaders as soon as possible, particularly on the appointment of the Special Envoy of ASEAN Chair.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also expressed his wish to see Myanmar working closely with Thailand to address ongoing bilateral issues, including barriers to border trade, impediments to the return of Myanmar nationals from Thailand through border checkpoints, and illegal border crossing.
H.E. U Myo Myint Than started his tour of duty as Ambassador of Myanmar to Thailand on 30 June 2017.
