On 10 September 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ICONSIAM co-organised MFA Muay Thai Flash Mob Dance II and Muay Thai Training Workshop at River Park, ICONSIAM. The Ministry aims to encourage the general public to join hands in promoting Muay Thai on the international arena as well as to raise the visibility and popularity of Muay Thai to reach board audiences, especially among diplomatic corps and media in Thailand. This activity is part of the Ministry’s efforts to promote Muay Thai as a beautiful martial art as well as a common sport and a light exercise for everyone and everywhere internationally. This activity is also part of the Thai Government’s campaign to introduce Muay Thai into the Olympic Games and other major international sports competitions.
The whole activity began with the “Wai Kru” Dance, a Muay Thai ritual in which Muay Thai boxers show respect to teachers, parents and ancestors before the actual fight, followed by Muay Thai Flash Mob Dance with the song “Muay Thai All Around the World,” joined by the famous 4MIX, Dom Petchthamrongchai (Dome The FACE), Fluke Pongsapat Kankam (Channel 3 actor), and young dancers.
The activity was joined by H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the MFA executives and officers, Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Ambassadors and representatives and families from Embassies, Thai and international media in Thailand, tourists and the general public.
This activity is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ “Muay Thai” teaching VDO clips project to promote understanding about Muay Thai and teach Muay Thai to both Thais and foreigners around the world. The clips are joined by Kru Din, several Muay Thai boxers including Taew Sudaporn Seesondee, I-Oon Patchayaporn Kasom, Non Sangsuriyachok, Rittewada Petchyindee Academy, Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong and Tawanchai PK Saenchai Muay Thai Gym, as well as Thai celebrities including Power Pat, Dom Petchthamrongchai, Fluke Pongsapat Kankam and Rusameekae Fagerlund. There are 21 teaching VDO clips, which are made available in both Thai and English languages on the “MFA Muay Thai” Youtube channel.
In addition, Thai Embassies and Consulates-General invited Thai communities, Muay Thai circles, foreigners and young generations to join dance exercises with the song “Muay Thai All Around the World” to help increase Muay Thai’s visibility globally. These include Sweden (led by the Thai Ambassador), Pakistan (led by the Thai Ambassador), Hong Kong, Mumbai, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Mexico City and Dakar.
