On 13 February 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed and had a discussion with H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Chief Executive Officer of the Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS CEO), during the courtesy call following her assumption of duty.

The two sides exchanged views on the MRC’s role and functions, emphasising the importance of enhancing cooperation between the MRC and related countries, particularly in increasing coordination, data sharing, and water monitoring and reporting to strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of water resources management in the Mekong River Basin during flood and drought seasons.

The CEO of the MRC expressed her appreciation for the continued support from the Ministry in advancing the MRC’s mission. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the MRC in water resources managament and underscored the importance of synergising efforts between the MRC and other Mekong Cooperation Frameworks, including Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) and Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), to further promote sub-regional collaboration.
