Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs participates in the 17th Mekong - Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila

On 22 July 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the 17th Mekong - Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (Mekong - Japan FMM) in Manila, the Philippines. The Meeting was co-chaired by Viet Nam and Japan.
The Deputy Prime Minister underscored the importance of promoting cooperative frameworks that align with the needs of Mekong countries, emphasising cooperation in the fields of green economy, digital transformation and science, research and innovation, Artificial Intelligence and digital finance, along with addressing the pressing challenges currently facing the region, including water resource management and water quality, air pollution, and transnational crime. In addition, Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the significance of enhancing synergy between the Mekong - Japan Cooperation and other sub-regional cooperation frameworks, including the Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS).
The Meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Mekong-Japan Cooperation Strategy 2024 and reaffirmed commitment to advancing the Mekong - Japan Initiative for SDGs toward 2030.
